  • 2 c Cold water ( 1 cup ice fill with cold water to make 2 cups)
  • ? pkg Kool-Aid (flavored unsweetened drink mix) flavor of choice*
  • ? tsp Artificial sweetener*
  • 1 - 2 T Fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ? T Psyllium and/or Guar Gum (mixed as 1 part psyllium to 1 part guar gum)

Method:

While briskly mixing the liquids together, add the psyllium/guar gum mixture with a hand blender or wire whip. Continue to whip until thick. Chill before eating.  Can also be served frozen or mixed with crushed ice.

Notes: 

1.  Some doctors prescribe this to be used ? hour before meals to curb appetite. Research suggests it also helps to lower blood sugar following a meal.  Both guar and pysllium also have cholesterol-lowering properties.

2.  Do not make any significant changes in your diet without consulting with your physician.  Significant improvements in blood sugar control may necessitate medication changes--or result in dangerous hypoglycemia.

* if you want to avoid artificial flavorings and colorings you can experiment with other flavorings and sweeteners (some prefer using the herb stevia for its sweetening properties)
